We Plan, God Laughs

There is that saying that ‘if you want to make God laugh, tell Him about your plans’. Well, I couldn’t agree more.

As humans, we seem to want to be in control of everything. I guess because being in control gives us a sense of power, reassurance that everything will be okay.

There are days when we can become anxious about the future. We worry about situations that have not yet happened but could. We worry about how we will manage. We worry about what will happen to our family.

But what does worrying change? Absolutely nothing. When we worry, we show a lack of faith and trust in God.

Often, we may pray for the outcome we want. When it doesn’t happen we believe God has not heard our prayers.

Here’s the thing. God already has a specific plan for each one of us. He has very cleverly marked out the path best suited to our individual needs. He loves us so much, we have to believe He will never abandon us.

There is that beautiful verse in Isaiah, in the Old Testament that says, “Behold, I have carved you on the palms of My hands”. We know that our Lord’s love is everlasting. His love is constant. Even when we fail Him, He is always there for us.

So how can we show more trust in Him? We pray and let go.

Let go of all that we humanly cannot control. We pray for the best possible outcome, but always finishing our prayer with ‘Lord, thy will be done’. We then go to Our Lady, our precious mother and entrust to her all that is worrying us. Finances, an illness; physical or mental, a family issue, whatever it may be. Ask her to intercede for us.

God cannot say no to His blessed mother.
